Thank you so much.
I just want to say a few words and thank you so much to my new colleagues as well as all of my family and friends and mentors and neighbors who helped me get to this moment.
I'm so excited to be here to celebrate this moment and I'm so grateful to be the first undergraduate student, the first Latina and the first queer woman of color to be elected to this body and I promise to always remain accountable to my constituents and continue organizing alongside my community because this seat and this vote is ours and I will pledge time and time again to honor you with it.
My presence here is a testament to the power of students and young people in Berkeley and beyond.
I'm also proud to be a part of the solidarity encampment at the steps on Sproul Plaza.
In my time at the encampment over the past two weeks I have again witnessed the beauty and solidarity and inclusivity of our campus community and it's important to remember that while students protest on campuses here in the Bay Area, Israel's bombs have reduced every university in Gaza to rubble.
And so I fully support my classmates' demands in their encampment.
I'm also proud to be a part of the solidarity encampment and continue to do everything in my power to ensure that no city, county or UC resources are used to arrest, suspend, evict or otherwise punish nonviolent student protesters.
This past month especially has shown that our generation is a force to be reckoned with, that we are strong and imaginative and that we know that there's a future within reach where we recognize our shared humanity.
And I have seen that we will not be forgotten.
I promise to hold our history close as it guides us towards the liberation of all people both in our backyards and internationally because our freedom and joy is bound together.
Thank you so much for this responsibility.
And lastly to my classmates as someone who also has a final exam tomorrow, I wish all of us the best of luck this week.
Congratulations to my fellow members of UC Berkeley's class of 2024 and I can't wait to see what all of us go on to achieve.
Thank you.
And I'm happy to take it to work.
